1000 DONORS NEEDED FOR "BLUE & GRAY DONOR CHALLENGE"

First Century Fund Capital Campaign

Announced by Warrior Run Community Education Foundation

August 1, 2022. The Warrior Run Community Education Foundation has publicly launched a $1.5 million dollar fundraising campaign to benefit the Warrior Run School District. Quietly begun in the fall of 2021, the Board of Directors of the WRCEF laid out a plan of outreach to individuals, alumni, businesses, and organizations.

Central to the campaign benefits are:

1. Naming Opportunities for educational spaces related to the new K-6 Warrior Run Elementary School, to the new athletic facilities, and to various areas within the middle and high schools,

2. Exciting initiatives include a new Multi-Media Curriculum, a Celebration Gallery within the Field House recognizing past and present student achievements,

3. Future Enhancements that are related to the upcoming physical and educational reorganization for grades 7-12.

The “BLUE & GRAY DONOR CHALLENGE” encourages contributions at all levels. The Challenge seeks to attain 1000 new donors to support current and future enhancements and innovations to curriculum, to departments, and to the physical needs in the district.

ALUMNI: It is hoped that the abundant history of past graduating classes and their memories can be a launching point for funding an enriched WR education experience. Graduates are encouraged to give individually and/or part of a class gift. Gifts of $5000 or more can be given to the general First Century Fund or designated to a particular focus.

Impacting the next 37 years through 2059, the First Century Fund will help the WRSD complete its first 100 years by offering the most effective educational experiences possible. Today’s students are different from the past. Our world demands new skills and opportunities and there is no time to waste. A year of lost opportunity for a child is never retrieved. The Foundation is working now to help provide those opportunities for future generations of students.

You can help in a variety of ways:

1. Become a donor.

2. Provide contacts of other prospective donors.

3. Talk to people about contributing to the campaign.

4. Champion a Class Challenge for your WR graduating class.

5. Spread the word with pride of this major effort promoting WR's future.

YOUTH IN PHILANTHROPY (YIP) AT WARRIOR RUN

YIP students held a successful fundraiser "Breakfast with Santa” in December 2022 to benefit YIP philanthropy. Thank you to Dr. Andrea Landis and teacher Kevin Myers for serving as club advisors.

Warrior Run has long been recognized as a supportive and generous community. With this in mind the Foundation continues to pursue a Youth in Philanthropy program to teach and model the benefits of sharing our time, talents, and treasure with our community.

Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) is a program that teaches high school students the meaning of philanthropy, how non-profits function, and the various ways that individuals can contribute to causes that are meaningful to them. Students then have an opportunity to learn about the needs of their school and local communities and to “grant” real funding to organizations of their choice. Additionally, these HS students visit elementary students and teach them about philanthropy in a way that allows children to begin to understand giving and sharing, creating generations of individuals engaged in society's needs and interests.

The WR YIP Chapter currently grants $3500 annually through an application process. Please consider sponsoring this worthy project by donating to the Warrior Run Education Foundation, and know that your donation will not only help to educate our students, but will go right back into our community in the form of grants that our students give out at the end of the school year. This really is a gift that keeps on giving.

To donate to YIP, choose WREF - Defender Fund, and write “In support of YIP” on your check to the Community Giving Foundation, 725 W Front St, Berwick, Pa 18603

If you are a teacher who would like to use payroll deduction to help maintain this program, please see the WR Business Office.

CLASSROOM INNOVATION GRANTS

The Warrior Run Education Foundation has historically sponsored annual grants to WRSD teachers to promote innovative teaching and learning in the classroom through competitive applications. Grants up to $1500 may be awarded to teachers to be used toward specific professional development to improve their instruction or content knowledge in innovative ways, or for an innovative, standards-based instructional unit or project in their classroom with the ultimate goal of increasing student engagement and learning.

The Foundation is doubling that opportunity during the 2023-24 year by now offering two grant rounds, one in October and one in April. Any certified professional staff member may submit proposals. We encourage staff to take advantage of this opportunity.

WHY AN EDUCATION FOUNDATION???

WREF supports students, teachers, and the school by investing charitable assets to improve educational experiences and the physical environment. This could include grants to students for special opportunities, grants to teachers for the design and development of innovative academic, extracurricular or cultural enrichment projects, and support to campaigns for improvement of departments, fields ands facilities that could not be otherwise funded or accomplished.

All grants and funds are provided at the discretion of the Foundation Board made up of interested community members, some school board and staff representation, as well as participation by the Superintendent of Schools. They operate in-part through partnership with the Community Giving Foundation, a tax exempt 501c3 charitable foundation, as well as through the Warrior Run Community Education Foundation, tax exempt 501c3, both to manage and invest funds.  Direction for efforts is taken from the WR School Board adoption of “Defender 2025” which outlines the goals of the District in 6 specific categories through 2025.

None of the information that you share will be used without your permission. By filling out this survey you are agreeing to be put on the Warrior Run Education Foundation's contact list. We will use email as our primary communication tool.  We look forward to keeping in touch! Thank you for your Warrior Run PRIDE!
