Community Update 11.23.21

Good afternoon Warrior Run Community,

We hope that you will take some time to read the important items included in this community update as the information pertains to students and families across the entire District.

At Monday’s board meeting, the school board affirmed its position to follow the current Health & Safety Plan in which masks are “highly recommended” following the Thanksgiving Break.  They also reinforced that wearing a mask has the greatest potential to keep students in school and not be subjected to a quarantine following a school-based exposure.  However, they emphasized that personal choice also requires personal responsibility among students, families, and employees.  If an increase in positive cases and/or students being sent to school symptomatic following break is observed, masks will ultimately be required in an effort to keep our doors open and students in school – especially during the time leading up to the winter break.

Flexible Instructional Days

As we approach the winter season, so begins the season of inclement weather.  Following an unusual year of snowstorms and remote learning during the 20-21 school year, our Board has affirmed that we will do our best to balance traditional snow days with Flexible Instructional Days (FIDs).  However, there is also a desire to preserve the two make-up days around Spring Break as much as possible.  We recognize that cancellations, delays, and FIDs tend to cause disruptions across our school community, and we do not take these decisions lightly.  Additional information regarding expectations for FIDs may be found by clicking here.

MS/HS Temporary Traffic Pattern

Following nearly 2 years of dialogue with PennDOT, we are being forced to close the northern driveway in front of the mural due to sight distance issues as identified by PennDOT.  The driveway will be open during the hours of 7:30-8:30am and 2:30-3:30pm on days school is in session.  Outside of these hours, the driveway will be closed, and vehicles leaving the middle school will be required to follow the driveway around the music suite and exit onto Warrior Run Boulevard (see map).  Please pass this information along to any family member who may have a need to come to the school during the hours that the driveway is closed.  This traffic pattern will begin Tuesday, November 30, 2021 and remain in effect through summer 2022.

8th Street Bridge Reopened

Now that the 8th Street Bridge is open, our transportation department has identified the following pick-up and drop-off times will change for the following buses:  1, 5, 7, 9, 11, 12, 15, & 17.  Beginning Tuesday, November 30, 2021, students who ride these buses may arrive at their bus stop approximately 5 minutes later than normal.  Please note that afternoon runs for these buses may be earlier by a similar amount of time.  For specific questions, please contact our Transportation Department.

On behalf of the entire District, we wish you and your family a safe, relaxing, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Alan Hack, Ed.D.
