Camp Courage is a fun-filled weekend, yet one which will help each camper to understand, express and share their feelings of grief. Children who attend camp stay in cabins with others of the same age and gender and work one-on-one with a Big Buddy volunteer. The Big Buddy provides a “listening ear”, careful supervision throughout the weekend and guarantees that the camper has a friend at every activity. Registered nurses and a counselor are also available on site at all times. Through a variety of guided activities such as journaling, creating memory boxes, and designing quilt squares, children learn to express their grief. Free time gives campers and their Big Buddies a chance to explore the many camp activities including archery, rock wall climbing, fishing, visits with therapy dogs, games and sports.
SMART Girls - Summer Camp, TBA. Pennsylvania College of Technology, Williamsport, PA
Dream It – Design It – Do It: It’s a 3D Summer In Careers Never Imagined
Engage your female students going into 9th, 10th, and 11th grade in careers never imagined at the Smart Girls summer camp. Smart Girls will engage girls in emerging technologies and careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
This year’s summer camp will engage participants in the art of 3D Printing and a theme of 3D. Dream It – Design It – Do It will give each girl an opportunity to experience the art of 3D printing from beginning to end. Participants will work in teams to build a 3D printer, design and print, and ultimately demonstrate their creations at a trade-show like event (open to the community). In addition to the project-based learning model, girls will experience daily themes of Career Development, Economic Development, and Workforce Development (3D’s of the Career, Education, and Work Standards) woven through the technical and soft skill experiences.
Students need no prior-knowledge of 3D printing or design to be successful at this camp – just a willingness to work together in a team, learn new technology, and have a great time!
STEM topics will be integrated throughout the week to build confidence and skills for participants.
The camp is an overnight residential program for rising 9th, 10th, and 11th graders and is open to the first 40 girls who register and submit completed paperwork with payment. The registration paperwork is attached and specific details can be found online at http://www.pct.edu/smartgirls/.
A $150 registration fee is required to secure a seat. If you have a student that would benefit from this program but is unable to pay the registration fee, please submit the registration paperwork (completed in full) with a letter on school district letterhead requesting a scholarship for fee waiver. A limited number of scholarships are available.
Smart Girls is coordinated by Outreach for K-12, brings Penn College faculty to provide content sessions, and the camp’s curriculum leadership is provided by Christina Herman (Loyalsock Township School District), Alice Justice and Tom Gill (Central Columbia School District), and Professor Eric Albert (Penn College). The theme of the curriculum is Dream It- Design It – Do It: It’s a 3D Summer In Careers Never Imagined
