ABOUT  US

TURBOTVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:

A Caring Community!!

A Caring Community...what is that?  We are a staff of teachers, support people, and paraprofessionals dedicated to one thing: your children!  Our desire is that every child entering the Turbotville Elementary School feels safe, knows that they are loved and cared for, and that learning is fun!  We believe that close, caring relationships between the adults of the school and your children promote happier, healthier, higher-achieving students, as we work and grow together.  We include the parents and caregivers in this embrace, knowing that the three groups - students, school, and parents - MUST work together in harmony to produce the best possible learner.  So join us in the fun of caring for and teaching children!

SCHOOL CHARACTERISTICS
The Turbotville Elementary Schools is a kindergarten through fourth grade facility. The current enrollment for the 2009-2010 school year is approximately 290 students. The average class size is 20 students per class. Our school year runs from August to June. Our staff includes 50 professional and support staff, and the grading schedule is four report cards per year, on a nine week grading period.

The Turbotville Elementary School supports office staff who are here to serve children, families, and the educational program.  Office staff should be contacted for registrations, withdrawals, and changes of student information.  All visitors to the school are asked to sign in at the office and collect a visitor’s pass.  The telephone number for the Main Office is 649-5164.  Messages may be left at the office for teaching staff during the day. Our FAX number is 649-6160.

Turbotville Elementary School is a facility containing the following: a complete library, with over 10,000 titles plus computer/internet access; a networked computer lab with internet access; two indoor physical educational areas; a self-contained cafeteria with a stage for performances; all classrooms equipped with internet access, and ; outdoor macadam and grass playground facilities with modern apparatus.

The Call-In Program
Due to concerns about the safety of students as they travel to and from school, Warrior Run School District requires families to call the appropriate school to report the absence of their students.  This is designed to insure that students who leave home for school arrive at school.

Whenever students are absent from school, families should call the school at 649-5164 as soon as possible, but no later than 8:30 AM with the following information: student’s name, grade, reason for absence.  Students are not to report themselves absent nor should friends, neighbors, siblings, etc. make such calls.  If a parent has not called the school by 8:30 AM, school staff will be calling parents at home and/or work to verify the absence.

When students return to school, they must present written excuses from home.  This must be presented on the DAY OF RETURN.  The reason for the absence must be clearly stated with a parental signature.  Even though a call is made, an excuse is required.  Failure to present an excuse within three school days of return to school will result in the absences being permanently recorded as unexcused or illegal.

PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
The Elementary Program offers a continuum of educational services to meet the needs of a wide diversity of learners. We realize that each child learns differently, and thus requires a variety of curricular, instructional, and assessment strategies. From enrichment programming to special education support, the Elementary Schools provide for our differences as learners. If you have questions concerning special education in the elementary schools, please contact Karen Frantz-Fry, Coordinator of Special Education at (570) 649-5135 or by e-mail at kfry@wrsd.org.

Additionally, the elementary school has art, music, and physical education programs, providing class once every four day cycle to all first through fourth grade children.  Kindergarten children receive music, library, and guidance classes once every four day cycle.  There is a full-time guidance counselor on staff, as well as full-time nursing services.

AFTER SCHOOL CHILD-CARE
The Turbotville Elementary School houses a program operated by Community Child Care. You may contact
them for further information at (570) 524-0926.

PARENT/TEACHER ORGANIZATIONS: Come visit our HSA!!
There is an active, vibrant parent-teacher organization at the Turbotville Elementary School, called the Home School Association.  The HSA meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 7 P.M. in the Turbotville Elementary School cafeteria.  The organization promotes healthy relationships between parents and the school, and provides richly for the students, through Family Fun Nights, School Fairs, yearly field trips, and school assemblies.
All parents are welcome to attend.
